Possession Of Toy Almost Turns Into An International Incident

IRVINE, CA-- Neighbourly tensions are high, but nine year old Randy Miskey remains hopeful that his frisbee will be returned to him soon. The flying disk in question, a lime green Wham-O Classic, has been on Mrs. Ling's front terrace since April 21st, after an errant throw by older brother Louis, 12.

frisbee throwThe two boys were playing a routine game of 'catch and throw' in the cul-de-sac that Tuesday afternoon, when Louis's final throw went off-course. He claims Mr. Ling, in his Jeep Laredo, pulled in to the cul-de-sac at the same moment, and disrupted his motion.

"We were just playing, the way we always do, and this time Louis winged it over my head," says Randy, who has remained calm throughout. "I think he might have been distracted by Mr. Ling's jeep."

The Lings claim that the children shouldn't be playing frisbee in the cul-de-sac at all. The Miskeys insist that the street is public and that they have every right to play there.

The situation escalated after Mrs. Ling, 58, claimed that a ceramic vase was knocked over, and that her aloe plant was uprooted. Louis and Randy deny that anything was hit, other than the side of the house. "It bounced off of the screen door, and landed on her balcony. It didn't hit anything else," says Louis.

Mrs. Ling is demanding that the boys apologize for spilling the plant, and want them to claim full responsibility for their actions. She says the frisbee will be returned afterwards.

At this time, the boys' parents are expressing regret over the loss of soil, but are not willing to accept any blame.

"I care about plants. It may be that her aloe was top-heavy, and needed to be in a larger pot. I can't see how it's possible a frisbee could knock over such a large plant," explains Mrs. Elaine Miskey, 37. "If there's no dirt on the frisbee, it doesn't seem likely it could have hit the plant," she added.

The Miskeys haven't had a chance to see the frisbee since the incident, and hope further investigation will resolve the issue.

"I just want it back," says Randy. "It's my property."
