COLUMBUS, OH-- Harvey Cohen had better learn his movie references if he intends to keep his job with the Betford Meier accounting firm. Harvey, who admittedly has entertainment deficiencies, was recently called to account for his inappropriately-timed laughter. This was in reaction to co-worker Andrew Fegman's "werewolf" comment at last week's budget meeting.
"I was making a joke about Stephen [Wolfe], our controller, being late for the meeting," said Andrew. "So I said 'Where Wolfe?'. And then Stephen walks into the boardroom. Our boss, Larry [Betford], points over to Stephen and says 'there Wolfe'. Harvey and I both start laughing, but I noticed Harvey's laughter was a little forced." The "Where Wolfe?" reference was from Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, where actors Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, as doctor and hunchback respectively, enact the classic Transylvanian scene whilst riding through the fog on a horse-drawn cart. "I noticed right away that Harvey's laughter timing wasn't quite right", admitted Larry, the 42-year-old senior partner. "I suspected Harvey didn't really get the joke, but laughed anyways. I don't think he's seen Young Frankenstein."
Larry went on to say: "Harvey's a fine worker, but I can't have my employees pretending to know what they're about. I had to call him on that one. Had it been a Woody Allen reference, I would have let it go. Who really gets those?" "When Mr. Betford looked at me after that 'werewolf' joke, I knew I was in shit," admitted Harvey, an accountant with the firm for over twelve years. "I thought about not laughing, but I didn't want to seem like I was out of the loop. He had me dead to rights on that one." Harvey has since invested in a DVD player, and has obtained a membership at his local video store. Andrew has also volunteered to assist Harvey in his cinematic studies. Harvey intends to
start off by renting the Monty Python movies, "because man, they're
always shooting off Python quotes." Said Harvey, "had they known
I had been bluffing all these years, I'd have been crucified faster than
Byron was, in Life Of Byron."
