| CANADA'S SOURCE FOR PALM PILOT HUMOUR, PARODY, AND SATIRE
SANTA CLARA, CA--Palm Computer's newest innovation, the Palm Thumb, is being touted as the world's smallest, coolest, and lightest handheld in the market today. It's so small, you can't help but be more productive.
Leaders in handheld technologies, Palm introduced its latest product earlier this month, much to the delight of squinting media personnel. Palm executives hope this move can help turn their recent misfortunes around. The bold new design, basically a reduced version of the Palm m500, is expected to create growth in a diminishing market. Competition is extremely interested in this wee new development, but it is not known whether there are any really tiny Wince devices being developed at this time. Boasting new features that are so small you can't really see or understand, the Palm Thumb is expected to appeal to people who have the larger Palm devices, but don't really use them. The Palm Thumb's daily planner and calendars are practically invisible to the naked eye. Scrolling is nearly impossible. But since you won't be able to read your scheduler, you'll have more time freed up to do other things. Technophobes are expected to love them. Since they can't operate computers anyhow, they will have an easier time bluffing their way through the smaller interface. And the lightweight, compact size means that they can hide them just about anywhere, then magically pull them out to show off to friends and associates. The miniature architecture also means that there is less memory, and therefore less stuff that can be input into it. "I won't have to worry about entering names, dates, and phone numbers," said Rupert Frith, a test market analyst. "I won't be able to see them anyways!" The miniscule device will use a scaled-down operating system, PalmOS .004. There won't be any USB or network support of any kind, because of its size. In fact, you would probably be better off just leaving your important data on a normal computer system. Still, positive factors will include a low retail price and a cute little carrying case. And the tiny little stylus will certainly impress even the casual observer. Expect the
Palm Thumb to be available in the next quarter...I think. The notes I
wrote down on my demo are too darned small to make out.
