| CANADA'S SOURCE FOR CANADIAN FOOTBALL HUMOUR, PARODY, AND SATIRE
SASKATCHEWAN-- Yea Roughriders! In a surprising upset, the eighth-seeded Humboldt Roughriders defeated the three-time defending champion Yorkton Roughriders 34-29, to become the new Saskatchewan high-school football champions. The Roughriders were not expected do well this year, after losing pre-season matches to the Roughriders from Saskatoon, and the inexperienced Swift Current Roughriders.
The final game was
close until the eleven-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when Humboldt
Roughriders cornerback Alex Brooks intercepted a pass from Yorkton Roughriders
quarterback Jay Bradford, running it in 61 yards for the winning score. In the consolation final, the third-ranked Regina Roughriders defeated a gritty team from Flin Flon, the Roughriders. The thirty-two team tournament was held in Estevan, home of the Roughriders. Estevan was defeated 28-7 by North Battleford's Roughrider squad. Humboldt's path to
the championship started with a victory over the fledgling Prince Albert
Roughriders in a "hard fought" overtime contest in the opening
round. After a win against the Roughriders of Weyburn, they (The Roughriders)
then went on to beat a well-respected Lloydminster Roughriders team in
the semi-finals. Nothing will
please the coach more than seeing the name "Roughriders" engraved
on the championship trophy.
