NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA-- In conjunction with the release of the new Scrabble - Klingon Edition, Deborah Wilkins, Hasbro's vice-president in charge of promotions, was happy to present the winners of the first Klingon Scrabble tournament with a premier edition of the board game.
The inaugural tournament held at the Emerald Square Mall last weekend was won by Thorg, son of Mahg, and his mate Tressa, of House Klag, both residents of North Attleboro. "We were honored to have won," said Thorg, a military consultant and part-time batleth instructor. "Yes, I too am honored," added Tressa, who works as a Klingon interpreter for the city of North Attleboro. The two Klingon-Scrabble experts beat out sixty-three other registered teams, winning their games by an average 300 - 26 score. Thorg and Tressa defeated Pawtucket residents Peter and Lisa Binghamton in the final match. The Binghamtons received gift certificates for Hasbro merchandise for their second-place effort. "It was just our luck having to facing that Klingon couple in the finals," said Lisa Binghamton. "It didn't help that we kept pulling apostrophe tiles, and lost every word challenge. But we really have to commend Tressa and Thorg; they played a fierce game." Tressa credits Thorg on the victory, claiming his prowess of the Klingon written language helped them win. "Thorg played like a true warrior," said Tressa. "Scrabble, which we call 'NiKrah'PAh', is very popular back home. The humans played much better than the Denebian slime devils I thought them for." Thorg says he will take the time to savor the victory, and later on tell the glorious tales to his Scrabble-playing warrior comrades. "It is well that we won," said Thorg. "I would have not wanted to commit Heghba' for having lost in a dishonorable manner." "It's
just really keen that two Klingons were able to win our tournament,"
added Wilkins, who has worked for Hasbro for seven years. "It's really
shows us that Scrabble is universally popular!"
