| CANADA'S SOURCE FOR HUMOUR, PARODY, AND SATIRE
I am surprised by the equinamity with which I view this significant passage of time, a year since I first started my ponderous and meaningful discussions in this forum on the political events--of course I have many years of experience elsewhere--but here is what we are speaking of now, political events of this fair city of Ottawa, the capital of this land of milk and honey for those who are unfamiliar with the geography of this northern outpost of British Empire and Commonwealth, and the very navel or centre of a vast mercantile trading operation in the pelts of beaver, mink and cariboo--I know Montreal is also important for the financing of the ventures into the hinterlands of Assiniboia and other Territories to the North and West, and there is some hint of industry--but although the hearts and brains of the great trading companies may lie elsewhere, here is the nerve and synapse of the slumbering beast that is Canada, I feel our century is yet to come, perhaps it is this one we have just entered, it is too soon to tell, I can not feel it yet, the cold draughts from the cracks in the walls of this garret have chilled me to the bone and yet my marrow is warm, happy with the thought that the indomitable Senators are doing well in the playoffs, finally, after a hundred years, another cycle, another turn of the bicycle wheel although it's been many years since I last rode my old Norton, perhaps this Spring, perhaps this year it will be different--dare I feel the the hope I know is still in the depths of my heart, somewhere, dare I think that this year will be different, that the cycle will, instead of turning full circle in the same spot with me perched high in my tower overlooking the frozen canal, instead it will turn for the better, to something new, the century will turn to a better more industrious country, breaking the bonds of reliance on hewing wood and drawing water, the Senators will, perhaps, even win the Stanley Cup, and I will be riding my old Norton across the country, I can feel the fresh air of Spring now I will wait for change
