The Toque, in case you haven't already noticed is a satirical publication that likes to look at the lighter side of happenings in Canada, and the rest of the world. We try to write interesting stories about subjects that relate to us all, and print material that we can joke about.
We are a Canadian site, and yes, that means we have that unique perspective about American culture that everyone says Canadians themselves lack. Growing up within 100 miles (160 kilometres) of the United States will give you that edge. We may be Canadians, but our stories are diverse, and reflect a world's worth of ideas. But don't shun us because of national origins because we know a lot about the rest of the world. Judge us on our content, and not our accents, eh. We are not a political or religious organization, and we are not trying to sell anything (except maybe a few t-shirts). Our opinions are our own, or the opinions of our imaginary columnists. We are willing to satirize any subject matter, and our material should not be construed as defamatory, derogatory, or racist in nature. Everything and everyone is equal, and thus a fair target. However, you'll find that most of our writing is friendly and fun anyhow, and not as caustic as other sites can be. It is our belief that humour and laughter are necessary to the health and well-being of mankind, and we are only doing our part to administer as much medicine as we can. Your comments are welcome.
Our writers have been featured in such prestigious media as: The Globe And Mail and have received favourable attention from popular Internet sites like: Slashdot.org
WRITING FOR US: Where before our doors were closed, locked, nailed shut, and then jammed entirely with a large piece of metal wedged just underneath the doorknob, now they are open. The locks have been removed, the nails have been recycled, and the metal is still there, but only for protection against burglars. If you are interested in submitting, you are welcome to send us your stuff. Or you can create an account with us, and submit directly. All submissions become the property of The Toque, but we will give credit for the work. We do retain the right to alter and edit as we deem appropriate. Published material will show up in the Writers Club section of our site. Contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
REPRINTS, LINKS, AND STUFF If you are interested in reprinting a story, you must first ask our permission. If you're a not-for-profit organization, we're usually pretty nice about it. If you are a publication looking to purchase rights to our material, please contact the editor. If you're a website wishing to link to a story, please be sure to give credit to The Toque, and to include the return link to our page. Please don't paste the entire article into your webpage, or link directly to our images. Just point your readers in our direction. Thanks for having a read, and enjoy. |
