Phone Calls Are Causing A Disconnect In Relationship
NEW WESTMINSTER, BC– What might have started as innocent “tele-cooing” for 27-year-old Stuart LeBlanc is now becoming a problem for the aspiring technical support supervisor.

Stuart works for an Internet service provider in Vancouver. He is happy with his career, and he feels he plays an important role in his company’s success. But the increased number of telephone calls from his girlfriend, Karen, is starting to affect his standing with co-workers, and is straining the relationships with his superiors.
Karen Gratton is 24, and works for an entertainment media corporation, where she is an executive assistant. Her duties include the scheduling of meetings in the boardroom, dealing with office supply representatives, and booking flights for management. She also organizes “special events”.
Stuart thinks perhaps Karen is not getting enough out of their relationship, or perhaps too much.
“At first, the telephone calls were innocent,” says ‘Stu’. “Karen would call me at the office maybe once or twice a week. Mostly, she’d be confirming a date, or reminding me to pick up the drycleaning.”
But lately, the number of inter-office calls has increased.
“She’ll phone me now at least four times a day. Sometimes she calls to ask how my day’s going, or she’ll just let me know that she’s just thinking of me.”
“We’ve been living together for six months, and we commute together,” remarks Stu. “I’ll drop her off at her work, and when I arrive at my office–fifteen minutes later–she’ll have already left me a voicemail.”
Added Stu: “If I’m in a meeting, she’ll leave a message with reception. If I’ve gone for lunch, she’ll page me. She even has these cryptic pager codes that mean different things. I love her, but I think it’s going too far.”
Karen’s co-worker Janine Clove thinks there might be more to it. “I see Karen on the phone all the time. Her job isn’t very demanding though. I think she just feels she has to look important.”
Janine remarked that Stu also appeared to be “Number one on the speed dial.”
“But for the record,” added Janine, “everyone else at work thinks she’s very industrious, and a real self-starter. Not to mention the fact that no one gives her any extra work, since she always looks busy.”
Karen couldn’t be reached for comment–she was on the phone.![]()
