By Andrew Monroe, UTN's Eye on the Middle East Lost in all the hubbub concerning the forced eviction of Israeli settlers from the Jewish settlements in the Gaza is the impact the move will have on the region's nightclubs and burlesques. The entire region will soon be under Islamic law, which forbids the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the exposure of female flesh. This, of course, will put severe restrictions on the operation of clubs of all types. Milton Hubisher, owner of operator of the region's largest club, the Little Sheba, located in Nezarim, comments, “The Gaza was always an open zone, you had Palestinians, Egyptians and Israelis coming to the club to share something that mankind has always dreamed about: Cheap beers, bottomless dancers and the loosest slots in the Middle East.” Hubisher will be relocating his business to Shuva, just across the new border, but it won't be the same. “The Pharisees won't allow the girls to dance without G-Strings. I got them to relent on the pasties, but they were adamant about bottomless dancers.” His club isn't the only one suffering. Other owners have been forced to shutdown operations or face harsh limitations on the way they run their businesses. While settlers received compensation for their forced relocation, company owners received almost nothing. As Mr. Hubisher says, “After this week, there will be no more Gaza strippers.” |
